Life and Games

Rocco’s ankles are peeking out of the bottom of his jeans.  He’s growing and trying new foods and figuring out what he likes and dislikes.  He’s learning to just try.  And that trying will teach him big lessons.  With food.  And life.  He’s fun and creative and smart.  He’s goofy and sweet.  He’s changing in many ways; some ways make me sad and others make the corners of my lips face up.

And then Roman.  He’s 34 pounds of perfection.  He has a new set of eyes that see the world in a beautiful way.  He’s witty and loving and spunky.  He’s determined to get big and strong, yet he leaves 90% of his food on his plate and then stands tall with his hands on his hips and shouts, “I ATE MY PEAR! I GREW! I’M BIG! HI-YA!”

I enjoy serving the boys fruit in Christmas bowls because, well… we missed our ‘typical’ Christmas this year.  I missed the silly material things that warm my heart over the holidays.  So now that we’re unpacked, you could say we’re enjoying some of the Fall and Winter decor in little splashes this Spring.  Ok, I’m enjoying.  Don’t be surprised if I serve you a glass of wine with an etched Christmas tree in it, ok?  It may have happened.  Once.

We’re playing a new game now too.  Everyone is a winner with this game.  Here goes.  When little one naps, the big boys and I play with things that we can’t do with Mario present.  Like wooden domino blocks.  The boys make a looooong path throughout the house that lead to something.  That ‘something’ is what they want to do with me.

Read Books.

Play Legos.

Wear Power Ranger Masks.

Look at Pokemon Cards.

While they make a path, I get a *bit* of work done.  Laundry, shower, dishes, bills, check e-mails.  Never do I accomplish all of that, but maybe a few.  Or maybe one; whatever. When they are finished, they show me where to start and I follow the path to our destination.  Today, they had me start here.  They led me upstairs, through the laundry room, Roman’s room, Rocco’s Room, my bedroom, into the hallway and it was there in the corner that 2 books and a pile of Legos were waiting.

We spend time together.  I love this game and they do too! Might be a daily Summer activity so that I can get some chores done ;)

One day, they asked if they could make the path go all the way to Starbucks (!!!!), in which I realized that we had to set some rules.  Like, ‘keep the path IN the house’ and ‘the path cannot go into Mario’s bedroom’.  So they made it go to the door and requested that we take a walk to Starbucks for a scone.  My kind of boys!

It’s a wonderful life we have here and I thank the Lord each day for the blessings that have been given to me.  I love it here.  Inside and out; we’re having a great time… it’s dreamy.  And fun getting back to life.

Happy Saturday sweet ones!
